UNDER AN ARCTIC SKY

GERMAN PREMIERE

With three hours of light each day, brutal winter storms and freezing temperatures, Iceland is far from the ideal surf trip. However, this didn’t stop photographer Chris Burkard and filmmaker Ben Weiland from rounding up a crew of surfers to seek out unknown waves in the islands remote north… all during the worst storm to hit Iceland’s shores in 25 years.

USA, 2O17, CHRIS BURKARD

USA, 2O16, CYRUS SUTTON

ISLAND EARTH

 GERMAN PREMIERE

Perhaps the greatest threat facing the world today is how we will feed ourselves in the coming decades. Experts warn we will have to grow as much food in the next 35 years to sustain ourselves as we've grown in the history of human civilization. Could GMO's help solve this pending crisis? Or will they spell destruction for life on Earth?

CONCERTS

JULES AHOI

& THE DEEPSEA ORCHESTRA

For more than 10 years, the 27-year-old artist, born in Germany, has been directing his life after the tide of the ocean. He earns his livelihood in the summer as a surf instructor, in the winter as a musician. Accordingly, the musical genre he wrote together with his band ''The Deepsea Orchestra'' is Saltwater Folk.

Each note, each line inspired by the sea, which breaks directly in front of the doorstep in the electoral home of the South of France.

JAMES CHATBURN

Birthing from a heavily John Mayer/Ben Harper influenced sound, to an in depth exploration of Soul and electronic music, Chatburn's foray into a wide spectrum of styles resolves as he delivers a unique sound.

HALASAN BAZAR

Everyday, in a dim lit bunker deep down beneath the streets of Copenhagen, sit HALASAN BAZAR; a ramshackle lo-fi psych pop outfit with a hookup for 60´s harmonies, Tin Pan Alley pop riffs and existentialist lyrics, recording an endless stream of quirky psych-pop songs.

Fascinated with madness and failure, the band may be doomed from the get-go. But in failure and madness lies great beauty. And this band´s quest is to aim for the intensity of manic creative flow and frustration, and on-the-edge esthetics of the true tragedies and casualties of pop.
